A photo walk through Lutherstadt Wittenberg for day trippers from Berlin: eight stops on the single street line that carries the whole town, from the Hauptbahnhof past the Luther oak, the asisi panorama, the Augusteum exhibition that replaces the closed Lutherhaus, the Melanchthonhaus, the Town Church with the Cranach altar and the market square, to the Castle Church with the bronze Theses Door. Wittenberg rewards people who walk it in order, and punishes people who arrive without knowing that its most famous museum is closed. This tool lays the town out as the single line it really is, so you can decide before the train which stops earn your hours.
What this tool does
It carries the eight stops of the Wittenberg walk in their real street order, each with a photograph, a one-line explanation, the current opening hours and prices, and an estimated walking time from Lutherstadt Wittenberg Hbf measured along the stop chain. It also carries the fact most visitors learn too late: the Lutherhaus is closed for renovation until spring 2027, and its highlights hang in the Augusteum next door.
How to use it
Tap a stop on the photo strip or on the distance rail, or use the previous and next buttons to walk the line in order. The yellow chip on each photo shows roughly how many minutes you are from the station at that point, so you can match the walk against your return train. My take on each stop tells you honestly which ones deserve a ticket and which are a two minute look.
My advice
Arrive mid-morning, walk the street in one direction, and put your money on the Augusteum exhibition and the two churches.
