Berlin's World Heritage, Against the Time You Actually Have
Berlin has ten World Heritage places and only one of them is in the centre. Set the block of time you can spare and the board eliminates the ones you cannot reach, look at properly and get back from, using real VBB journey times from Alexanderplatz.

Why Berlin World Heritage is harder to plan than it sounds
Berlin has three UNESCO properties, and they are nothing like each other. Museum Island is five museums on one island in the Spree, three minutes from Alexanderplatz. The Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin reach into Berlin only at Wannsee, with Schloss Glienicke and the Pfaueninsel. And the Berlin Modernism Housing Estates are seven separate lived-in estates scattered from Bohnsdorf in the south east to Reinickendorf in the north, the seventh of them added on 26 July 2026. That means the real question is never which sites are on the list. It is which of them repays a journey across the city on the afternoon you actually have.
How to use the board
Set the block of time you can give the trip, from one hour to five. A sloping line sweeps across the plot showing the limit of that budget once the journey out and the journey back are both counted, and every place outside it drops to grey. The horizontal axis is the measured one-way journey time from Alexanderplatz. The vertical axis is the shortest visit that is genuinely worth making once you arrive, which is my judgement as a guide rather than a measurement. Tap any dot or any name for the full card.
What the numbers are
Journey times are the median of twelve live queries against the VBB and BVG timetable API, run from S+U Alexanderplatz at three different times of day, with each access stop resolved from the site real OpenStreetMap coordinates rather than guessed. That correction matters: the nearest stop to Gartenstadt Falkenberg is S Gruenau, 501 metres away, and using the wrong stop adds twenty minutes to the answer. The small map inside each card plots the ten places against the real coordinates of the 27 S-Bahn Ring stations, so you can see how far out each one sits.
Two things worth knowing before you go
The estates are lived-in flats and houses, so there is no entrance and no exhibition. You walk the public street and the courtyards, which is what the architecture was designed to be read from, and the Hufeisensiedlung in Britz is the only one with resident-led guided tours. Everything on this list is inside the Berlin city boundary, so a normal AB ticket covers the whole thing, Wannsee included. Prices, opening times and journey times were checked on 24 August 2026.
