Will your Saturday survive 3 October?
German Unity Day puts Berlin on Sunday rules, and in 2026 the 3 October holiday lands on a Saturday. Tap the things your day was supposed to include and the board shows which plans still work, at what hours, and what replaces the ones that close.
Pick your actual plans for the holiday, from a bakery breakfast to a grocery run, a museum slot, dinner and a club night. Each pick lands on an hour-by-hour day board for 3 October: green where the plan works with its real legal or posted window, yellow where a station shop, emergency pharmacy or ATM replaces it, and struck red where the plan is closed until Monday.
On 3 October Berlin runs the same closure rules as a Sunday: supermarkets, malls and most shops stay shut while restaurants, museums and transport carry on. In 2026 the holiday falls on a Saturday, so the city runs two Sunday-rule days in a row, and anyone who planned Saturday shopping or errands needs a different day. The board answers the only question that matters that morning: which of my plans still work, and what do I do instead? Bakeries may sell from 07:00 to 16:00, the station supermarkets at Hauptbahnhof, Ostbahnhof and Friedrichstrasse stay open, the state museums keep their Sunday pattern, and one pharmacy per area covers emergencies around the clock.
What this tool does
It takes the plans you already had for the day, groceries, a museum, big-store shopping, dinner, a club night, an airport transfer, and renders each one as a bar on an hour-by-hour board for 3 October. A green bar shows the window where the plan works, with the real rule behind it: bakeries 07:00 to 16:00, state museums on their Sunday pattern, restaurants on a normal Saturday. A yellow bar means the plan needs a reroute, like the station supermarkets that replace every closed Rewe and Edeka. A struck red line means the plan is dead until Monday, KaDeWe and the malls above all.
The one rule that explains the whole day
Berlin treats a public holiday exactly like a Sunday. Whatever you can do on a Berlin Sunday, you can do on 3 October; whatever needs a weekday or a normal Saturday has to move. The useful exceptions are fixed: shops inside major train stations and at BER Airport may open, bakeries may sell baked goods from 07:00 to 16:00, and one pharmacy per area is on emergency duty around the clock.
My advice
Move the errands to Friday 2 October and stop defending the plan that died. The holiday Saturday is genuinely good at the things that stay open: a booked museum slot in the morning, quiet streets for walking at midday, a reserved dinner, and the opening night of TAG DER CLUBKULTUR after dark. The board exists so you can see the difference between a plan that needs rescuing and a plan that only needs moving one day earlier.
