Your Berlin Train May Leave from a Different Station in 2026

Berlin Hauptbahnhof is two stations stacked on each other, and the upper Stadtbahn tracks are closed to regional and long-distance trains from 14 June to 12 December 2026. Most long-distance trains use the lower level, while some services move to Charlottenburg, Südkreuz, Gesundbrunnen, Ostkreuz or Lichtenberg. Go down at Hauptbahnhof
Most long-distance trains use Hauptbahnhof lower level, platforms 1 to 8, during the closure. The glass hall upstairs still carries S-Bahn trains, but no regional or long-distance service. Give yourself extra time for the four-level transfer and follow the platform number on your ticket.
The temporary gateways
Some ICE trains to North Rhine-Westphalia and Frankfurt start or finish at Charlottenburg. Düsseldorf and Köln services run via Südkreuz. Eurocity trains to Poland use Gesundbrunnen and Lichtenberg from 25 August, and Intercity trains on the Dresden-Berlin-Rostock line are diverted via Ostkreuz. Hamburg trains cannot stop at Spandau.
One rule that beats every guide
Construction plans and train paths can change. Check the exact journey in DB Navigator or on bahn.de on the day, and trust the station and platform printed on your booking over a familiar route, an old screenshot or a hotel recommendation.
