How Much of Your Six Weeks of Sick Pay Is Left?
Add every spell you have been off work with the same illness. The board lays them on one calendar, counts the 42 days of full pay you have spent, marks the exact day the six weeks open again, and shows what Krankengeld would pay instead.
Built on section 3 of the Entgeltfortzahlungsgesetz and sections 46 to 48 of the fifth book of the Sozialgesetzbuch, on the 2026 contribution ceiling of 5,812.50 euros a month, read on 20 September 2026. Six weeks is 42 calendar days per illness, not per year. For one and the same illness a fresh 42 days opens only after six clear months without it, or twelve months from the first day you were off with it.
Almost everybody knows that a German employer pays six weeks of full wages. Almost nobody knows that for a recurring illness those six weeks do not come back until the calendar says so. This board does that arithmetic on your own dates.
Forty-two calendar days, not forty-two working days
The six weeks in section 3 of the Entgeltfortzahlungsgesetz are counted as calendar days, so the weekends inside a spell are spent as well. The entitlement also only begins once the employment has run four uninterrupted weeks.
The same illness does not get a fresh six weeks
A new 42 days opens only if you were free of that illness for at least six months before the new incapacity, or if twelve months have passed since the first day you were off with it. The earlier of those two dates is the one the board marks.
What Krankengeld pays after that
Seventy per cent of gross, capped at ninety per cent of net, and capped again at 135.63 euros a day in 2026. Your own share of pension, unemployment and long-term care contributions comes off that, roughly 12.4 per cent. It runs 78 weeks in three years for one illness, the six weeks included.
What this tool leaves out
It works in time, not in your payslip. It does not know your net pay, your tax class or your collective agreement, so the euro figure is an estimate of the statutory floor and your Krankenkasse is the one that settles the amount.
