Where should you be at midnight in Berlin?

The times behind the board
The fixed anchors of the night: fireworks are legal from 18:00 on 31 December to 07:00 on 1 January, the street peak runs roughly 23:30 to 00:45, and the trains keep going all night, U-Bahn about every 10 minutes with the S-Bahn ring at 10 and the main lines at 20. In recent winters the Brandenburg Gate party was free but ticketed for about 20,000 people with doors from 21:30, and the station under the Gate closed from the afternoon. The coming winter’s exact program, ticket date and firework ban zones are announced from November on, so treat the board as the shape of the night and check the official pages for the final details.
My advice
Decide before 23:00 and commit. The classic mistake is drifting between plans and spending midnight in a crowd between two tram stops. If you want the organized version, chase the free tickets in early December. If you want the real street version, be on Modersohnbrücke by 23:00 with closed shoes. If you want the wide-angle version, take the S-Bahn toward Heerstraße by 22:30 and climb Drachenberg with a phone light. And whichever you choose, 1 January morning is the emptiest, quietest walking morning of the Berlin year.
